Road Home

December 25, 2009

by Fliza Thomas

Still, despite nightmarsh fears and reservations, when I’d turned forty I found I wanted desperately to have a baby.If I looked for reasons, they were probably the same  ones many woman have. I didn’t want to  miss another of life’s passages.I want to love a child and a child to love.I hoped for a new connection to the future, a new understanding of the past, a new responsibility, and a role in life.

How time flies

December 21, 2009

Time is a funny concept. It sometimes seems like just yesterday that you were in college, enjoying the frat life and worrying about whether you’d get that term paper written on time. Or that you’d just landed your first joband were trying to figoure out what you should wear and how you would act when your boss came around.you can remember perfectly how your scrimped and saved so you’d have enough money to rent that cute little apartment near your office building.

Time contines, and you remember your wedding day. And the day your first child was born. and the second one.It seems like minutes ago tha t your daughter was sitting on your lap, absolutly entranced as you read Slepping Beauty for the five-hundredth time. Now she’s 19 and starting her second year of college.

No wonder some days we look  in the mirror and hardly recognize the middle aged person who looks back at us.How did that happen? who is the person with the graying hair and noticeable laugh lines?

It’s hard to comprehend that 25,30,35 years have passed by since those college days.Or that your children, who seemingly just yesterday were looking to you for all the answers, now have all the answers and are grown up and living on their own.Maybe you are a grandparent. You might have moved on from that little, rented apartment to a house, and then a bigger house, and now an even bigger house and vacation home.

time passed quickly, that’s for sure.we are at what might be the busiest period of our lives)juggling kids, jobs, and aging parents while still trying to find time to walk the dog, work out at gym,and maintain some semblance of a social life.We often think that ought to be hours added to everyday, just so we can accomplish everything we need to.

Fall is upon us and winter not fall off.The leaves have reached their peak color and are beginning to fall.Fall means chilly nights and warm fires and Tanksgiving. It’s a chance for all of us to reflect on the things we have to be thankful for.Even in these tough economic times and tumultuous world events, we can find a bright spot each day and see the dim it may appear.

Treasured by kings, purchased by patriots, this great stone monument is the looking-glass of history.

Immense, majestic,a sentinal of shenandoah whispering the stories of America’s origins.
